Warrnambool’s Community Radio Station
In 1985 an association known as Community Radio Endeavour Warrnambool (CREW) was formed. The purposes of the Association were documented in the “proposed statement of purpose”.
- To obtain a public radio broadcasting licence for the Warrnambool area and establish a broadcasting station to carry out the terms of such a licence
- To seek to involve all persons in Warrnambool and district in all aspects of the operation of such a station
- To attempt to provide through such a station programming which caters for interests not provided for by national or commercial stations in Warrnambool and district.
Following many “test” broadcasts, a permanent licence was granted in September 1990. 24 hour broadcasting commenced with over 100 volunteers. The station ID 3WAY (standing for Warrnambool And You) was adopted.
3WAY-FM has been in continuous operation ever since and now also streams live on the Internet enabling listeners anywhere in the world to tune in on Internet capable devices such as smart phones, tablets or computers.
The station is operated entirely by volunteers as a community service.
