Brophy
Brophy Family and Youth Services (Brophy) is the primary provider for youth and family services in South West Victoria. Brophy first provided a community service in Warrnambool in 1972 when Father Tom Brophy and a group of volunteers decided to establish a boys home to prevent young boys who were unable to live at home from having to be sent to the orphanages at Geelong and Ballarat.
Brophy has evolved from providing hostel accommodation for homeless youth and developed into a comprehensive range of services for young people, individuals and families. The agency provides regional services to Portland, Hamilton, Camperdown, Warrnambool and districts through its outreach programs. Its main office is located in Warrnambool and sub regional offices in Hamilton and Portland.
The Community and Youth Complex is a services and information hub providing a unique, holistic approach to meeting the needs of young people and families in Southwest Victoria. It services the needs of youth and the community in the areas of health, welfare, education, training, employment and social connectedness throughout the Southwest by:
- Providing a one stop information and referral service
- Delivery of youth programs, activities and enterprises
- Coordination and linkage of youth services
- Youth health care, including a GP clinic
Brophy’s Family & Children’s Services Hub delivers a broad range of Family Services, which aim to provide an enhanced family support service to vulnerable families. These services are delivered with an alliance of regional partners.
The Foyer provides 18 independent living units and aims to provide an affordable, supported accommodation campus for young adults at risk of homelessness, to assist in transitioning into stable living arrangements and secure employment and training.
Today, Brophy is contracted to deliver over 35 community programs across Southwest Victoria provided by over 100 staff and more than 120 volunteers.
Brophy Family & Youth Services’ Mission has remained true and consistent over the years, which is to provide community service with a focus on social justice and disadvantage. This is what Father Brophy was about; “trying to keep kids in the community and standing up for many families to assist them in difficult times.”
